My morning started off early as I headed with my hotel driver to the downtown area. I was advised not to take any taxis and to only use the official hotel driver. I was sure that I would be fine using a regular taxi and when asked by my driver if I wanted to be picked up, I replied no but as I got closer to Downtown Lima and the pace picked up I decided that I was too much of a wimp at this point to get into a taxi so I arranged to be picked up.
My plan was to spend the day downtown and because it was December the area was beautifully decorated. The weather was perfect and about 70 degrees with a nice breeze in the air.
Many of the buildings on the drive downtown were gorgeous and the streets were clean. I felt like I was in Europe with the style and architecture of the buildings.
This X-Mas tree was the first thing I noticed when I got to the main square.
The next set of pictures is my attempt to capture the area once I got out of the car. I took it as a panoramic picture. I wish I could piece it together as one long picture! It was so beautiful that I didn’t want to forget any of it.
Below is the start of the Presidential Palace.
The yellow building is Casa del Oidor aka the Magistrate House. I will talk more about this building in my next post.
Next to Casa del Oidor is the Cathedral of Lima.
Fountain in the square.
I was so overwhelmed by the beauty of the square that I just stood there for a while taking it all in.
